  • Feminism is neither for or against abortion. However, feminism is (generally) for the right to legal access for abortion. Feminists do not want to kill babies, to use such speech is both manipulative and condescending. It is condescending because it makes assumptions for all of feminism and refuses to deal with the delicate factors which surround abortion. Control over reproductive organs and what occurs to them is essential to a female’s full autonomy. The utilization of effective, affordable, contraceptives is essential to women’s health; when the day comes that contraceptives become affordable, available, effective and easy to use abortion will likely no longer be necessary in most cases. Feminism, as a general whole is likely to agree to this. The debate over abortion, for most feminists, is not about the moral status of the embryo or fetus. It has little to do with the morals or religion of the mother. The issue is about the right to women’s reproductive control without the interference of a patriarchal government or medical system.
